... But it comes to pass that humankind is threatened by an invasive species: the nutria! ("Nutria" refers to the coypu, or its thick, light-brown fur). A diet of GMOs and frankenfish have turned the nutria, by Darwin, into an unstoppable pestilence, destroying the waterfronts first but gradually, inexorably, moving inland. Huge buildings topple, their foundations gnawed through by teeth as tough as diamonds. Now capable of breathing underwater, the beaver-like rodents retreat to their ocean lair and evade discovery indefinitely... By any human means, that is!
